Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Under the supervision of theAEDand with support of the 4-H educator, this position performs a variety of technical duties to carry out the teaching, demonstration, and other educational and outreach activities in 4-H, and assists with other programs such as educational programs, youth camp, the County Fair, 4-H achievement events, promotional events, and assisting with clubs in close partnership with the 4-H educator. The individual is self-motivated and should meet and communicate with the Cecil County 4-H educator on a weekly basis.

Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma orGEDANDFive years experience performing a variety of duties in support of the teaching, demonstration, and advising work of Extension agents or in community outreach, health care, research, or social services programs.
Preferences:
    • Three years experience performing a variety of duties in support of the teaching, demonstration, and advising work of Extension agents or in community outreach, or social services programs.
    • Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license and transportation. Must pass a background check.
Additional Certifications:
  • Working knowledge of 4-H or youth programs.
  • Skill to plan and carry out details of projects with general instruction.
  • Skill to make arithmetic calculations, analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill to establish and maintain successful working relationships.
  • Ability to take direction and feedback.
  • Ability to lift and transport supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to operate manual and automated office equipment and personal computers.
  • Evidence of capacity to buildUMEDiversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect capacity through Extension program model.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check and University of Maryland Background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.
Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

    • Works closely with 4-H educator to implement planning for various programs augmenting the Cecil County 4-H Youth Development Program – notably the Chicks in the Classroom and other programs in partnership withCCPS
    • Under the guidance of the 4-H educator, provides leadership and expertise for an educational program seeking to grow and enhance 4-H and youth outreach
    • Responds to oral and written requests for information (internal and external). Assists with data compilation and compliance requirements.
    • Makes educational presentations and leads discussions at club meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
    • Recruits 4-H youth participants and volunteer program leaders.

  • Nature of the Position:This position frequently presents information through vocal and written communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Physical Demands:A routine part of this position’s responsibilities would be to transport materials to and from teaching and event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle. The employee will frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and teardown of displays, tables, and chairs would be necessary at many teaching sites.
  • Environmental:Team driven, office environment of professional character, competence, and collaboration. Deadline driven in terms of program planning and reporting. This position requires the employee to work outdoors at certain times of the year, especially during the time field research, demonstrations, and meetings are conducted as well as annual county fair. This may occur during very hot and/or inclement weather.
  • Visual Acuity:Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and presentations.
