PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) - For the first time since last week’s shooting near Morrill’s Corner, the Portland Police Department is sharing information about the three victims who survived the altercation that left a Maine woman dead.

Police said the shooting happened in the area of 1155 Forest Ave. at about 8:45 p.m. on July 30.

Four people were shot and transported to Maine Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

Susan McHugh, 54, of Gray, died of her injuries. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on McHugh and determined the cause of her death was a gunshot wound and ruled the manner of her death to be a homicide.

On Tuesday, the Portland Police Department said the other three shooting victims were a 51-year-old Gray man, a 48-year-old Yarmouth man and a 45-year-old New Hampshire man.

Police said the New Hampshire man was treated for his injuries and released from Maine Medical Center on the night of the shooting.

The Yarmouth man had remained hospitalized until recently and has since been released from Maine Medical Center, according to police.

The Gray man remains hospitalized, police said.

The Portland Police Department said no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and that the investigation remains very active with police executing multiple search warrants.

“We are working with local, State and Federal agencies to identify and build solid evidence to support both an arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Susan McHugh,” said Portland police Chief Mark Dubois said in a statement.

“We have released very little information and realize the anxiety that this has caused the public. The decision to withhold the release of information is not taken lightly. We release information after consultation with the investigating detectives and prosecutors with the Attorney General’s Office. The decision is made after weighing several factors and is a collaboration between everyone involved,” Dubois added. “There are more than a dozen investigators working exclusively on this investigation.”

The Forest Avenue address provided by the Portland Police Department is the listed address for a Meineke Car Care Center.

Surveillance video shared with Jim Keithley shows the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Meineke at 1155 Forest Ave., which is on the corner of Morrill Street. Keithley reported seeing large blood stains in that parking lot.

Police told Keithley that they did not want the surveillance video from Meineke shared publicly, but authorities did allow Maine’s Total Coverage to share a different surveillance video that shows a Bishop Street parking lot that is behind the McDonald’s at 1208 Forest Ave.

While watching the Bishop Street video, which can be seen below, 18 gunshots can be heard around the time of the shooting, and people can be seen scurrying for cover.

While speaking with Maine’s Total Coverage about the incident on the night of July 30, Portland police Maj. Robert Martin recommended that people who live in the area should take extra caution and shelter in place. Shortly after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Portland Police Department announced the recommendation to shelter in place had been lifted because police do not believe there is any threat to the public at this time.

The section of Forest Avenue near Morrill’s Corner was shut down to traffic throughout the night until about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, while police investigated the area.

A spokesperson for Maine Medical Center confirmed that the hospital’s emergency department went into a brief lockdown the night of July 30 but returned to normal operations by early the next morning. The decision to restrict access at Maine Medical Center was standard protocol for the hospital and there was no incident there, according to the spokesperson.

A Maine’s Total Coverage crew at Maine Medical Center said there were several Portland Police Department cruisers parked near the emergency room entrance late on the night of the shooting.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the shooting is being asked by authorities to call investigators if they have not already spoken with someone. Police said they can be contacted by calling 207-874-8575 or by texting “PPDME” and a message to 847411.
